The GT1M sampling frequency was set to 30 Hertz, and the monitor measures 0.05-2.5 g in dynamic range in the vertical axis. The GT1M and the newer monitor generations are initialized and downloaded over a USB interface using the ActiLife software (v. 5.5.5). In this study GT1M version 7.5.0 monitor firmware was used (produced in 2007).

Purpose: This study aimed to compare three objective measures (GT1M ActiGraph, ActivPAL™, and direct observation) of sedentary behavior in preschoolers. Methods: Fifty-two 4- to 6-yr-old preschoolers wore an ActivPAL™ and a GT1M ActiGraph for five consecutive days and were videotaped for 1 h during classroom activities at preschool. The GT1M was on average 9% lower per epoch than model 7164, thus a correction factor of 0.91 is suggested for comparison between the two monitors. The differences between monitors increased in magnitude with intensity of activity (P < 0.001) but remained randomly distributed (r = 0.01, P = 0.96). An accelerometer is a tool that measures proper acceleration.

Previous studies have shown excellent intramodel reliability (average ICC for ActiGraph 7164: r = 0.98, 95% confidence interval = 0.97-0.98, P < 0.001; GT1M: r = 0.94, P < 0.05) among ActiGraph accelerometers at various running and walking speeds ( 3,16,19 ). Objectives: The GT1M ActiGraph has been replaced by the triaxial GT3X which includes an inclinometer to detect postures.
